Frequently asked questions

 What is the NIPT test?

The Non-Invasive Prenatal Test (NIPT) is an advanced screening that analyzes small fragments of fetal DNA circulating in the mother’s blood to assess the risk of certain genetic conditions in the baby. It is safe, accurate, and requires only a simple blood sample.

When can I take the NIPT test?

The NIPT test can typically be performed from 10 weeks of pregnancy onwards, allowing early insights into your baby’s genetic health.

What conditions does the NIPT test screen for?

NIPT primarily screens for common chromosomal abnormalities such as:

  • Down syndrome (Trisomy 21)
  • Trisomy 18 and Trisomy 13
  • Sex chromosome abnormalities

Some panels may also provide information on fetal gender.

Is the NIPT test safe for mother and baby?

Yes. NIPT is non-invasive and only requires a maternal blood draw, meaning there is no risk to the baby compared to invasive procedures like amniocentesis.

Can the NIPT test be done at home?

Yes. Valeo offers at-home sample collection, where a licensed nurse visits your home, collects the blood sample, and sends it to certified labs for analysis.

How accurate is the NIPT test?

NIPT is highly accurate for screening common chromosomal conditions, but it is still a screening test—not a diagnostic test. Your doctor may recommend confirmatory testing if results indicate high risk.

NIPT Test at Home for Safe and Early Pregnancy Screening

The NIPT Test, also known as the Non-Invasive Prenatal Test, is a safe and simple blood test used during pregnancy to screen for common chromosomal conditions in the baby. With NIPT test at home, expecting mothers can complete their prenatal screening comfortably without visiting a clinic. A qualified healthcare professional collects the blood sample at home, and the results help doctors assess the baby’s health risks at an early stage of pregnancy.
